The Marinade with Jason Earle Episode 146 | Jobi Riccio

Jobi Riccio hikes into The Marinade. Jobi is a singer and songwriter from Morrison, CO, whose debut album Whiplash on Yep Roc records has garnered praise from multi-Grammy award winning modern songwriting legend Jason Isbell.

Her Country author Marissa R. Moss in her Don’t Rock the Inbox newsletter said Riccio’s song “Sweet” is “A little bit classic country, a little bit nineties Sheryl Crow kiss-off, and that’s about as winning a combination as you can get.”

We caught up with Jobi via Zoom to talk about growing up in idyllic surroundings, commitment to craft, cultivating community, chronic dog boners (stay with us) and so much more.

The song you are hearing in this episode is "For Me It's You" from Jobi Riccio's Whiplash.

The Marinade with Jason Earle Episode 144 | Van Plating Returns

This is Episode 144, and our guest for the second time is Van Plating. Van Plating is a singer, songwriter, and virtuoso violin player from Lakeland, Florida, whose latest record Orange Blossom Child is a personal examination of the place that raised her.

We caught up at Van Plating’s beautiful home in central Florida with our bellies full of Indian food and glasses full of rum. Trigger warning, everyone. Van opened up about a near death experience she had a few years ago. It is a harrowing story and I don’t want anyone to be caught off guard by the details.

The Marinade with Jason Earle Episode 143 | Jenny Owen Youngs

This is Episode 143 and our guest is Jenny Owen Youngs. Jenny is a singer, songwriter, author, and podcaster originally from New Jersey who now makes her home in Maine. She has written mega hits for the likes of Pitbull and Panic! At the Disco, but my introduction to her music was at Jack Rabbits, a small rock club in Jacksonville, FL, ten years ago. Jenny stood out on a stage that included heavyweight songwriters Chuck Ragan and Rocky Votolato. Her songs have been featured in the likes of Bojack Horseman, Grey’s Anatomy, and Weeds. Her Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast Buffering has spawned its own subculture.

It has been over a decade since Jenny’s last full length solo record but the wait is over this September. Her gorgeous collection of songs “Avalanche” is out on September 22, 2023. It is a stunning album that showcases all of what makes Jenny Owen Youngs a special creative human.

The record - which is produced by John Pedigo and friend of The Marinade and Ottoman Turk Joshua Ray Walker - takes more of a country turn than the two Ottoman Turks records, and I am here for all of it. JD Clayton is a songwriter from Fort Smith, Arkansas, whose full length debut record Long Way From Home was released in January of 2023. Y’all, I wanna take a second to thank you for supporting this Marinade thing.

We caught up with JD in the media tent at Bonnaroo. The day before Morgan Wade and Charley Crockett were milling about. Tyler Childers walked by the spot I was working right after my conversation with JD. I have a feeling we will be talking about JD Clayton in the same breath as those folks before you know it. None of this is possible without you listening, supporting, and spreading the word.
